“For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” (Romans 12: 4–5)
1. Internal Law of the Parish Council
In accordance with the particular law of the Chaldean Church, as approved by the Synod of 2016, which governs the manner of operation of Parish Councils in Chaldean churches, their competencies, and their relationship with the Parish Priest and the Diocesan Bishop:
The Parish Priest is the President of the Parish Council, while the Parish Council itself is a consultative body (not an administrative one). Through its meetings and duties, it provides supportive assistance to the Parish Priest in organizing pastoral affairs.
2. Members of the Parish Council
The leadership of the Parish Council is Msgr. Fr. Paul Mingana and consists of seventeen (17) members:
Deacon Momtaz Sako, Walid Andraous, Sabri Mikho, Balsan Abo, Clara Elia, Matthew Kaka, Raad Hanna, Hani Nirsu, Aswan Paul, Laith Auni, Naheen Issa, David Zia, Rose Yaqo, Paul Sanjaqli, Sandra Yousef, Maryam Hanti, and Mukhlis Khamo.
3. Duties of the Parish Council
The Parish Council is composed of a group of parishioners who, in a spirit of love, service, and zeal for the community, have volunteered to serve and work in order to assist the parish priests in several important areas of parish life, including:
4. Parish Council Committees
The Parish Council forms the following committees:
a. Finance Committee
According to diocesan internal regulations, the Finance Committee is not elected but is appointed by the Parish Priest. Its mission is to attend to the economic affairs of the parish in order to ensure the proper and fitting use of temporal goods for the Church’s spiritual and faith mission, and in service of its proper purposes, especially divine worship and works of mission and charity.
b. Liturgical Committee
The mission of the Liturgical Committee is to increase liturgical awareness among the faithful by ensuring that church rites are celebrated worthily and beautifully, to express the spiritual and faith richness contained within them.
c. Pastoral Committee
The mission of the Pastoral Committee is to be responsible for the pastoral and social aspects of parish life. It contributes to strengthening solid bonds among the faithful, uniting them within the Church through principles and values that transcend all purely human considerations.
d. Educational Committee
The mission of the Cultural Committee is to address the cultural and ongoing religious educational needs of the parish for all age groups, and to support the life of the Christian family. It is also responsible for proclaiming the Gospel message using contemporary methods, employing various means of communication—visual, audio, and written.
e. Maintenance and Construction Committee
The mission of the Maintenance and Construction Committee is to attend to construction matters and the maintenance of church properties. It proposes appropriate solutions and recommendations to address damages to church buildings, in accordance with applicable civil regulations.
